I finally finished Behemoth today! It was awesome, and it wasn't one of those disappointing sequels for which I am so happy. It was fun, with great pacing, great new character, wonderful setting and exciting plot with plenty of loose ends to tie in the next book!
Oh Deryn, I love you so. Seriously, I have a huge thing for females kicking ass, and Deryn is definitely one of those. Nearly fearless, and loyal and not a sissy, oh no. I adore her feelings for Alek, I ship those two so hard, but they have everything against them. The fact that he doesn't even know that she's a girl, and the cultural differences, and the fact that he doesn't want to marry a commoner, God, that almost broke my heart that scene when he said that. I don't know how I feel about the fact that she hasn't revealed to him yet, but I have more to look forward to in Goliath I guess!
Alek-In-Charge was great. He really has had so much training during his up-bringing for every possible situation and I love that. I kinda disliked Lilit in the beginning since I was afraid she and Alek would get together, but then the she-likes-Deryn reveal came, and I flailed like crazy. I did not see that coming at all, and it totally made me like her again. AND THE KISS! God, I loved the kiss, and that she figured out that Deryn was a girl ('cause I'm sure she did, with the Mr. Sharp and everything. I wasn't that upset over Zaven dying, it would've been worse if it was Bauer or Klopp. I was torn about wanting Deryn and Alek to run away together or for them to go back to the Leviathan, but in the end I think it worked out for the best, 'cause I love the Leviathan.
There were so many wonderful scenes and I can't start to describe all of them, but overall it was great, and I really can't wait for the next book, which won't be released for another year. Also, I did RSVP for Scott Westerfelds live chat tonight, but I'm not sure I can make it. Partly 'cause I might have RL stuff to do, and because the time difference makes it harder. According to my calculations it should be starting at 11 pm in my time zone, which is a doable time.
